Dr. Jason Chang

PT, DPT

Jason was born in New York, raised in Taiwan until the age of 9, then he moved to California where he eventually earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Biology at the University of California, Davis. Jason continued his education after college, receiving his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California in 2011. He has worked in various orthopedic outpatient clinics in California, including a 6-month internship at Stanford Medical Center, where he worked with industry-leading Physicians and Physical Therapists specializing in Orthopedic and Sports medicine. Although Jason enjoys working with all types of patients, he has developed a special interest in working with high level athletes seeking optimal performance.
Having spent nine years of his childhood in Taiwan, Jason has always been exposed to, and developed interest in Chinese healing practices, such as Gua Sha, Cupping, Moxabustion, as well as Qi Gong. After moving to Hawaii in 2013, he continued to practice in multiple outpatient orthopedic settings, where he treated patients with various conditions ranging from headaches to ankle sprains. Jason soon realized that he can provide a unique service. By combining his modern Western Physical Therapy training, along with the knowledge and experience of traditional Eastern healing techniques, Jason is able to provide a superior service compared to traditional Physical Therapy alone.
Jason is an active member of American Physical Therapy Association, as well as the orthopedic and sports medicine specialty sections. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
During his free time, Jason enjoys working out, hiking, surfing, and spending time with his fiancée. He also speaks mandarin fluently.

Dr. Darrin M Shimada

PT, DPT

Darrin is a high school dropout who has persevered to earn his Bachelor of Science (BS) in Kinesiology from San Diego State University in 1998, his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in 2003, and his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from A.T. Still University, Arizona School of Health Sciences in 2004. After passing his high school equivalence examination and prior to any junior college coursework, his previous blue collar work at FedEx at the Oakland Airport taught him to enjoy the results from hard physical work and effort in a culturally diverse work environment, which makes him appreciate his current white collar work of physical therapy while continuing to bring a blue collar work mentality. Darrin has suffered and endured various injuries through sports, car accidents, and repetitive work injuries. He has first hand knowledge of being an injured student, injured worker, and frustrated athlete. He can definitely relate to being away from work, away from school, or away from any physical activities such as sports, gym workouts, household chores, or something as simple as driving to the grocery store or even taking a shower independently and pain-free. Darrin has completed various continuing education coursework and hopes to be a life long learner where being an "expert" or having "expertise" is something that can never be obtained, only striven for, because no one person knows everything and there is always something you can learn from anyone. Outside interests include mountain biking, basketball, volleyball, skiing, staying / remaining active, hiking / walking, being outdoors, home improvement projects, food, friends, family.
